Apple gets another injunction, this time on Samsung?s Galaxy Nexus

Samsung has been dealt another patent blow in a Northern California courtroom, and this time it involves a product that isn?t woefully out of date. Apple has been awarded a preliminary injunction against sales of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus ? an important product for Google?s Android strategy ? in the U.S., according to a report.

Reuters was at the courtroom in San Jose, Calif., where Judge Lucy Koh once again slapped an injunction on a Samsung product running Android. However, this time, instead of an injunction against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (which never sold that well when it was new on the market a year ago), the device in question is Galaxy Nexus, the flagship device for Google?s Android 4.0 software release. The Nexus was just given away to all attendees at Google I/O this week.

Apple will have to post a $95 million bond to enforce the injunction, but that amount of money is pocket change for the company. From Samsung?s standpoint, the news might not be quite as bad given that it just introduced the Samsung Galaxy S III to great fanfare, but from Google?s standpoint, the news isn?t very welcome. Google?s Nexus program is designed to showcase the company?s approach to user interface design, free from outside influences added to smartphones from handset makers and carriers, and if the injunction holds, Samsung won?t be able to sell those phones in the U.S.

And to top it all off, Bloomberg reported late Friday that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is investigating whether or not Motorola ? now part of Google ? has been abusing so-called ?standards essential patents? in its legal battles with Apple and Microsoft. Even coming off the high of Google I/O, these developments are not good for Google and Android.

Thai Ombudsmen Pressing for Regulated Land Ownership Law

The Bangkok Post reported that Thai ombudsmen are drafting a new law??to stop illegal foreign ownership of land in the country.

Pursuant to Thailand real estate law??it is normally illegal for a foreigner to own real estate in Thailand.? Based on numerous complaints to the Thai government of foreigners using Thai nominees to purchase real estate on their behalf, the Thai government is proposing a new law to crack down on the use of Thai nominees to purchase real estate. ?

Ombudsman Siracha Charoenpanij said the new law would provide for punishment for companies offering advice to foreigners on how to hold Thai property by disguising their legal transaction. The draft law would also allow the deportation of foreigners found guilty of holding the land plots in Thailand illegally. The current law requires foreigners found holding Thai property to transfer the plot to someone else or sell it within 180 days.

Recently, some foreigners have disguised their ownership in a scheme similar to multi-level marketing, where they then buy shares of an agricultural company that holds ownership of the land grows rice on large plots in the northeast.

Atip Bijanonda, president of the construction and real estate business department of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said there should be a balance between protecting Thai interests while still welcoming foreign investment.

The newly proposed law also includes a reward to anyone providing information about foreigners owning land through nominees. Those providing the information would get 20 per cent of the market price of the piece of land after the plot is sold.

This draft law has not yet been made into law and its future is uncertain. The Ombudsmen will submit the draft to parliament this year.

NEW YORK (AP) ? The younger brother and business partner of disgraced financier Bernard Madoff pleaded guilty Friday to charges he doctored documents for years, but he insisted he knew nothing about his brother's historic Ponzi scheme and was "in total shock" when he found out about it.

An emotional Peter Madoff, 66, entered the plea in a deal that permits him to remain free on $5 million bail pending his Oct. 4 sentencing. He agreed not to contest a 10-year prison sentence and, several hours later, emerged from the courthouse into a rush of cameras and a car that awaited him.

"My family was torn apart as a result of my brother's atrocious conduct," he said. "I was reviled by strangers as well as friends who assumed that I knew about the Ponzi scheme."

The plea to charges of conspiracy and falsifying records came in the Manhattan courthouse where Bernard Madoff was led away in handcuffs in 2009 to serve a 150-year sentence. Federal prosecutors said the investigation was ongoing.

Peter Madoff told the judge he was "deeply ashamed and terribly sorry" but that he didn't know about the scam until his brother revealed it in December 2008.

"I was in total shock," he said, adding he had persuaded his wife, daughter, granddaughter and sister to invest millions of dollars that they lost in the fraud. "My world was destroyed. I lost everything I worked for."

Prosecutors portrayed the younger Madoff as a criminally incompetent chief compliance officer who filed fabricated compliance reports for more than a decade and purposefully deceived the Securities and Exchange Commission.

"He even signed many weeks of compliance reports in one sitting, intentionally changing pens and ink colors to disguise the fact that he had done them at once," Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa A. Baroni told U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain.

Madoff became choked up near the end of his statement after he described how he and his brother decided which favored friends, clients and family members should receive the $300 million that remained in the investment company's accounts.

Only weeks before, the clients had been told their roughly $20 billion investment had grown to more than $65 billion.

He said he was "shocked and devastated" by his brother's admission that it was all a fraud, "but nevertheless I did as my brother had said, as I had consistently done for decades. I knew that the conduct was wrong and I am deeply ashamed." The checks never went out.

The plea was consistent with Bernard Madoff's own claims that his brother and two sons were in the dark about his misdeeds.

The FBI nevertheless had been suspicious from the start about the role of Peter Madoff, who had worked side by side with his scheming brother for more than 40 years.

FBI Assistant Director Janice K. Fedarcyk said Peter Madoff played an "essential enabling role" in the scam by certifying fabricated investment results.

"The Madoff investment empire, built on a foundation of deceit, was a house of cards that grew to skyscraper proportions," she said. "As Peter Madoff has admitted today, he was one of the chief architects."

Peter Madoff was released on $5 million bail, secured by $1 million in cash or property, pending sentencing. Prosecutors said Peter Madoff agreed to surrender all his assets.

"Peter Madoff enabled the largest fraud in human history. He will now be jailed well into old age, and he will forfeit virtually every penny he has," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said. "We are not yet finished calling to account everyone responsible for the epic fraud of Bernard Madoff and the epic pain of his many victims."

Peter Madoff said he joined his brother's firm after graduating from Fordham Law School in 1970. He was credited with creating a computer trading system for the firm in the late 1970s and early 1980s that was considered groundbreaking at the time.

"I loved my job," he said, adding that his respect and admiration for his brother only grew in subsequent decades as Bernard Madoff became important on Wall Street, eventually becoming chairman of Nasdaq. Still, he added, Bernard Madoff "made clear to me I would never be a partner in his business," even as he showered him with tens of millions of dollars.

A complaint filed in bankruptcy court alleged that the Madoff investment business had transferred more than $77 million to Peter Madoff.

Peter Madoff admitted Friday that he tried to hide millions of dollars from the Internal Revenue Service.

Baroni said he had engaged in "an enormous tax fraud conspiracy," enabling tens of millions of dollars to be transferred among members of the Madoff family to dodge millions of dollars in taxes, and he arranged for his wife to take a no-show job at the investment firm.

As part of a forfeiture agreement, Madoff's wife, Marion, and daughter Shana must forfeit nearly all of their assets. The government said those assets and assets that will be forfeited by other family members include several homes, a Ferrari and more than $10 million in cash and securities. It said his wife will be left with $771,733.

Though Madoff had been the firm's chief compliance officer for nearly four decades, the government marked his start in the conspiracy as 1996. It said he created false and misleading compliance documents and false reports for the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The lies worsened in severity after August 2006, when the business was registered with the SEC as an investment adviser, requiring annual filings to guide the SEC's examination programs. Prosecutors said Madoff made "numerous false statements" to create the false appearance that the business represented a small number of highly sophisticated clients.

Baroni said the Madoffs once claimed the investment firm had 23 client accounts when it actually had more than 4,000.

The government said the business reported to the SEC in 2008 that it had $17.1 billion under management when it was reporting to investors that it had more than $65 billion.

Peter Madoff said that he withdrew $200,000 from the investment business's accounts even after learning about the fraud so that he could make annual donations to charities.

His plea differed from his brother's appearance three years ago, when numerous investors spoke of their pain after losing their life savings.

On two occasions Friday, Swain asked if any investors wished to speak. None stepped forward.

Since the fraud was revealed, a court-appointed trustee has reached agreements to recover approximately $9.1 billion and has distributed more than $1.1 billion to Madoff's victims.

ANALYSIS: There are few courtships I?ve witnessed as closely as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes?. For me, it began in a conference room where it was confirmed that the two were yes, really, actually dating. The eyes of my fellow magazine editors and reporters grew wide and most comments began with ?What the ...?? (You can guess what they ended with.)

Hundreds of paparazzi photos and just a couple months later, I vividly recall standing on the ?War of the Worlds? red carpet, being a little overwhelmed/grossed out by the way the two of them moved down the press line as a single, overly affectionate unit.

Thousands more paparazzi photos and a little more than a year after that, the couple married in Italy. I, along with every other entertainment reporter around the globe, scrambled to get details about just what went on inside the castle that night they promised to love, honor, cherish and ?to never close their eyes in sleep on a disagreement or upset.?

But what went on in the castle is not nearly is a big a question as what went on in that marriage. From spontaneous couch jumping to showing off baby Suri in pre-arranged photo shoots, the couple was obviously very public. But privately, they were an enigma. Now that the marriage of five years is over, everyone who bore witness to the relationship with any level of curiosity is asking the question of what the union was like.

While I don?t pretend to know what goes on inside anyone?s marriage, I can tell you what disappeared during this particular one: Katie Holmes.

Prior to taking up with Cruise, the post-?Dawson?s Creek? Katie was among New York?s fun-loving, 20-something social set. Our social circles overlapped from time to time, and she was known for being a fairly private but ?normal? young woman. She would go out to clubs with groups of friends ? not in the Lindsay Lohan tradition. She was mellow, danced a little and was happy, then would go home without undue drama. She shopped, went out to eat, and if not for her fame, would be just like any other young New Yorker.

Then she met Tom.

Holmes' evolution into Kate, as Tom renamed her, happened practically overnight. She disappeared from New York so entirely and swiftly, she didn?t even pack up her apartment, which she had just finished redecorating.? ?She called some friends and told them they were welcome to anything in there,? a mutual friend informed me at the time. ?She loved all that stuff so much, this is all really strange,? he said.

Also strange ? and you can?t talk Katie and Tom?s relationship without talking about this ? was her overnight devotion to Scientology. All preconceived notions about Scientology aside, it was shocking to see the good Catholic-school girl with a Scientology ?minder,? of all things. This constant companion was often introduced as her new best friend, and was soon identified to be Jessica Feshbach, a high-ranking Scientologist. A source very close to the couple vouched for the transformation, saying it was actually Holmes who was ensuring Scientology had a presence on her husband's film sets. "She became more devoted to it than he was for a time," the source said.

To be fair, Holmes is not the first person to fall so head over heels in love that they completely detach from their social circle and seemingly start that part of their life anew. You'd think that she had to be aware of it happening in real time ? you don?t just give away your possessions and adopt the practices of Scientology without being aware that you?re doing so. What I don?t think she was aware of was that she was giving away her career, too.

As the doe-eyed Joey Potter on ?Dawson?s Creek,? Holmes wasn?t exactly dropping hints that there might be an Oscar in her future, but she proved in 2000?s ?Wonder Boys? that she had real acting chops. Thanks to that role, it looked like she might be able to pull off what few actors can: the post-television film career.

Between the time ?Wonder Boys? was released and she married in 2006, Holmes is credited with eight more movies, the last one being ?Thank You For Smoking.? Released the spring before her wedding, it was rumored that Cruise had pressured the studio to cut a scene where Holmes was to appear topless. The film?s director, Jason Reitman, later shot down the rumor, saying, ?That?s a fun story; the problem is that it?s not true,? but it marks the first of many instances that Cruise was accused of steering Holmes? career in a way he deemed fit.

Fast forward to today, and in the time the two have been married, the only notable work Holmes has had was her recent miniseries, ?The Kennedys,? and a handful of flops. Motherhood might have put her career on hold initially, but recently, Holmes has been gunning for work and not getting it. One producer recalled for me a recent pitch meeting where her name was brought up for a role, and everyone in the room snickered.

?That's what happens now, and it?s because of Tom,? he said. ?No one takes her seriously.? ?

Luckily for Holmes, everyone loves a comeback story. She?s taken control of her marriage by filing for divorce, and now she has the opportunity to take control back of her own story -- personally and professionally.

Here?s to the rewrite. So many people will be glad to have Katie back.

Also, I think it's worth noting that there are probably more singular hairs making up Anthony Davis's unibrow than fans at the Prudential Center right now. Yes, that means that I think there are around 4,000 hairs making up Anthony Davis' caterpillar.

Sadly, I'm wearing an obnoxious Tommy Hilfiger white shirt and a striped tie I bought the other day on the corner outside the office. I bought it from the vendor who was pulling double duty at the King Tut Halal food cart.

So the real story tonight sounds like it might be the trades that could begin as soon as Davis is off the board. But one thing that's really remarkable about NBA draft trades is the fact that they even happen in the first place. No day in the NBA is riskier than today. And nothing -- not even drafting anyone other than Davis -- is riskier than a trade. As Steve Kerr told me last year: "Every team in the league has some MIT whiz trying to make sense of all this. Frankly, I think it?s impossible. In the end, there?s no way you could ever quantify this stuff to a precise calculation."

Tony, you're in Newark tonight, just a few pocket squares away from all the action. What (or who?) are you wearing?

It looks like 12 of the 14 draft picks in the Prudential Center are wearing pocket squares. The only two non-squares (who are the real squares, am I right?): Harrison Barnes and Austin Rivers. How did that happen? Glad you asked. Both wanted to be the only one without a pocket square, so Barnes told Rivers he was going with the pocket square, and Rivers told Barnes the same thing. Neither knew that the other was actually crossing his fingers behind his back.

There was good news and bad news for basketball fans this afternoon. Bad news: DraftExress.com, the Bible of NBA Draft coverage, was temporarily down. Good news: SCOTUSblog, the Bible of Supreme Court coverage, was still up! One thing that's really fun to do on NBA Draft day is read lawyers parse through Supreme Court opinions -- in real time. The select players attending the Draft tonight were apparently stuck in rush-hour traffic heading to Newark from Manhattan. They would have taken New Jersey Transit, but they were all just like, Would you take New Jersey Transit?

NBA players no longer have to worry about getting locked out of their houses -- that's what the lockout mess was about, right? -- and the league is a week removed from a marvelous postseason that ended with the best athlete on the planet winning his first championship. So here's the question everyone's been waiting for: Are you ready for the NBA Draft? If you're reading this, then you probably are. And you should be! The NBA playoffs were rife with superstars reaching the sport's apex before and after wearing perfectly tailored suits, watches that make GQ editors drool and glasses that may or may not have had lenses. The NBA Draft tonight will be rife with experts talking about the potential of future mid-level exceptions, many of whom will be wearing outfits that were approved by their mothers. So, yes, I couldn't be more excited.

One person who probably is more excited is Anthony Davis, who will shake hands with David Stern and put on a New Orleans Hornet snap-back as soon as the Hornets finish popping champagne and remember to call in the pick. If I were a Hornets fan, my only concern in the world right now would be my front-office executives getting a little too cozy with the bubbly. But then that never happens in New Orleans, so there's nothing to worry about.

After Davis comes a big, no-body-fat question mark.?Who will Charlotte take with the No. 2 pick: Thomas Robinson, Bradley Beal, Harrison Barnes, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or someone named "Trade," for whom I can't find a last name? Will Damian Lillard wear another bow tie? Will Austin Rivers pass up the opportunity to smile? (Just kidding! Everyone knows Rivers doesn't like to pass.) Will Cory Booker save Michael Jordan... from drafting Harrison Barnes? And most important: Is it actually possible to kiss your girlfriend better than Jan Vesely did?

It's been a few days since my last post, so I thought I would post an update about how everything has been going. I know this isn't a typical Sara's house post, but my house hasn't exactly been typical over the last two weeks. The last two weeks have been so crazy, I feel like I am having an outer body experience. I am expecting to wake up any minute now, oh wait, I AM AWAKE. We have been trying to keep things as normal as possible for the sake of our children. It's working pretty well. My surgery is Thursday, pet scan is Monday, and after that I am hoping for good news, and no more doctor visits for a while.
We went to Tulsa over the weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. Friday afternoon we did some shopping and spent time with the kids. Friday evening we went out to dinner with my brother and sister in law. I had a couple of drinks and a lot of laughs. I haven't laughed like that in a while, I need to remind myself to laugh more and worry less. It works wonders for the soul. I need to not take myself so seriously. Saturday evening, my best friend came over and we went out for a night of more laughing and a drink. She and I have been best friends since fourth grade, we have been through everything together. I am discovering as I get older it is more important to me to find true friendships, true friends are so rare these days.
I feel as though God has been trying to teach me a lesson over the last year, and it took all of this to finally get me to listen. I am beginning to listen. I have taken so many moments for granted, and I am realizing I dont ?get those back. In life, there is nothing for certain, except death. We are not gauranteed a tomorrow, so make the best of today. Enjoy the moment and live! Have faith. Spend time with your loved ones. Family is the most important thing, they will be the ones to pick you up when everything falls apart. Goodnight.

The Latest Project From Siri-Creator SRI: Lola, An Intelligent Banking Assistant

I just got out of a meeting at SRI International, where representatives from both SRI and international banking group BBVA showed off something they've been working on for the past couple of years. Currently, SRI is best known as the research institute where Siri was developed before spinning out into a separate company and eventually being acquired by Apple, where it powers the Siri feature on the iPhone. SRI and BBVA have been collaborating on a new project, Lola, which they're pitching as a successor of sorts to Siri. Bill Mark, SRI's VP of Information and Computer Sciences, calls it "the next generation personal assistant."

The gambling industry is expanding overseas into new markets and gaming companies are taking a close look at online and social gaming as a way to boost revenues. Las Vegas has diversified and is now more than a gambling destination. Many casino companies are betting that internet bingo, virtual slots and games that resemble Zynga?s Facebook game Farmville will be the key to increased profits for gaming companies. Although most of the social games do not offer real money prizes casino executives hope that social games will whet the appetite of players for the real thing and familiarize them with various casino brands.

Gambling companies hope to use Facebook games to ease players into internet gambling for real money. During the past year several casino companies have either purchased or partnered with an internet game developer. Many in the industry feel that Facebook will be a valuable player acquisition tool in the very near future. The numbers are staggering. Facebook has over 900 million users worldwide and if a small percentage of users are converted to internet gaming the numbers will be unprecedented. Rob Bone, senior vice president of WMS Gaming stated ?Operators are coming together saying, ?Here is this transformational opportunity; let?s collaborate.?

Earlier in the year Caesar?s Entertainment purchased Israel based Playtika the developer of the popular Facebook game Slotomania. MGM has partnered with Playstudios to launch a Facebook application titled myVegas. MyVegas will be launched this summer and will allow people to play slots or blackjack. MGM and Boyd Gaming have invested in Bwin Party Digital Entertainment which creates social gaming and poker applications. Last fall Fertitta Interactive purchased San Francisco based Cyber Arts. The acquisition has enabled Fertitta Interactive to develop Ultimate Poker. The game was launched on June 22nd. The company also owns an internet bingo game.

The reasoning behind the mergers and partnerships is simple; if gaming companies can acquire players online they can then lure them to land based casinos. Andy Choy, president and chief executive of the Rivera in Las Vegas, stated ?At some point, part of that audience is going to say, ?I want to play for real. They may say, ?I?ve won all these virtual prizes. How about some cash?? In May the Rivera partnered with Bingo Blitz, a popular internet bingo platform on Facebook. Choy hopes the partnership will raise the Rivera?s brand profile. Choy said ?Hopefully, there?s some cross over between people who play the game at home and vacationers who are planning to come here. The hope is they will have a positive view of the Riviera from playing the game online.?

StoryWalk The Curious Garden at Tamarack ... - Free Family Fun!

Tamarack Nature Center is offering a StoryWalk? adventure for you and your family on Sunday between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..? Your family can enjoy a story while exploring the great outdoors. As you walk, you will be able to read a book together page-by-page along the walking paths. StoryWalk? is an initiative that combines a children?s story with a popular walking route? It was developed in 2007 by Anne Ferguson, a volunteer with the The Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition.? A children?s book is selected, the pages are separated, laminated and attached to wooden stakes. The stakes are then placed at regular intervals along paths so readers can follow the story as they walk the route.

The story for this walk will be The Curious Garden,?by Peter Brown.? As you explore, you will be able to read the book together page-by-page along the walking paths and in Discovery Hollow.?Discover how a curious little boy and his garden can transform a city from drab to fab!

It really makes you want to get out and transform your own little world.? I want to try to pair this with a trip to the Farmers market to buy some veggies and? try one of the recipes they are always handing out.

Another way to go with this activity is the StoryWalk itself.? We have so many wonderful children?s books that have been loved to pieces over the years ? some that have been through multiple generations.? What do you do with these books when they no longer want to stay together, but you love the story too much to throw it away?? Why not post your own indoor StoryWalk?? (Although, if you only have one copy, you will have to be able to get to both sides of the page.)? Suite 101 offers seven more ideas for re-using old storybooks.? These ideas are great springboards for all sorts of creative ideas.? You may have to start buying beat up thrift shop books, just to keep up with your kids art projects.? Ameilia?s House also offers an entire party plan based on books and book art projects.? Some of these ideas could be borrowed for family art time.

Educating the Executive Level About the Value of Organizational ...

Problems with out-of-date or poorly functioning ERP software?often are abundantly clear to anyone working within the system. But a disconnect can arise when those tasked with making decisions about the ERP system don?t actually use the ERP system. After all, it?s a lot easier to make the wrong determination when one only hears about ? rather than experiences ? all of the issues created by the existing software (or lack thereof).

As a kind of hinge between the everyday operations of the company and the C-suite, directors typically find themselves having to educate the executive level not just about the value of ERP systems in general but the importance of conducting ERP implementations the right way. This is as critical as it is tricky. After all, no ERP implementation succeeds without executive buy-in and support. On the other hand, no executive likes being told what to do.

The key to it is simple: show how a new or updated ERP system can save the organization time and money and you?ve got yourself a deal. The harder part is assigning metrics to what can be a somewhat nebulous return ? especially when discussing something as ?soft? as organizational change management or training. After all, how much does it truly cost the company when Joe in Accounting only learns 45-percent of the ERP functionality he needs? What about when Donna?s boss in Purchasing turns a blind eye when she decides to go ahead and continue using Excel instead of the ERP system?

The easy way out of this estimation conundrum is to cut all or most of the organizational change management activities and focus instead on the technical installation aspects. After all, everyone knows that it?s bad if the system doesn?t work and it?s good if it does and can assign numbers to either scenario. Change management? Can be hard to quantify and thus, hard to justify.

Distressingly, organizations consider this ?technology-only? approach far more than you might think. In Panorama?s expert opinion, however, it?s 100-percent wrong. Some points to consider:

• ERP failure hardly is ever caused by a technical malfunction; it?s caused by lack of usage and adoption. It?s caused by people who don?t know how to use it right, by people who don?t trust it, and by people who don?t care what impact their misuse or nonuse has on the organization on a whole.

• Organizational change management is as critical to the success of the project as the technical installation but it?s a whole lot easier to screw up. While a technological mishap will quickly be sorted out, the impacts of how organizational change management is handled will affect the organization for all the years it relies upon the system.

• Organizational change starts from the top. If executives don?t see the value in using the ERP system the right way (or in the system at all), then end-users won?t either. Messaging from the top-level has to be both frequent and consistent. Further, they have to mean it.

While it might be challenging to express these notions to the C-suite, it?s necessary for the health of both the ERP implementation and the organization on a whole to give the guys and gals upstairs some tough love. Nothing says good eatin' like a plague-themed cafe!

Or at least that's what the makers of the famed Resident Evil video games believe. Capcom, the company behind the video?game franchise (which is?known as "Biohazard" rather than "Resident Evil" in Japan), is opening its first Biohazard Cafe & Grill in Tokyo this July.

If you haven't played the Resident Evil/Biohazard games (or, say, seen the movies featuring?Milla Jovovich), they are horror games that center around the spread of a virus that turns people into zombies. Feeling hungry yet?

The Biohazard Cafe, which opens July 13 in Tokyo's Shibuya neighborhood, will feature dance performances (yes, dance performances)?and will only serve dishes for one year.?Check out the official?website here.

I checked in with?Capcom's U.S. office?and they?confirm the cafe is for real?(despite the misspelling at the top of the?web page.) They say the official translation is as follows:

?The very first official Biohazard brand themed restaurant?opens on 13th July 2012 inside Shibuya Parco Part 1 building, it's called"Biohazard Cafe & Grill S.T.A.R.S.". Performance by the?dance troop "S.T.A.R.S. Angelique" is planned, in addition, some?limited Biohazard items can be sold only at this location. Thread: New to me freebies - Family Woodworking

The guy next door wanted to thank me for cutting his grass the past 5 or 6 weeks while his hand healed up after having a bone in his thumb replaced. This morning he came over & presented me with these little beauties he snagged at a garage sale...

The planer was attached to the stand, but I barely have enough room to pass gas, so it{the stand} will either be disassembled & stored or passed onto someone who can use it. He had no idea what the clamps were used for, but he picked up both the 32"36"? & the 50" for $5.00..after I explained the clamp uses we decided he should keep one for himself{besides, I told him that I knew where he lived if I needed the larger one }...He wouldn't say what he paid for the planer, he just smiled and said he was still "way ahead"...great to have good neighbors, or good to have great neighbors, either/or, I'm blessed to have quite a few on our little street!

I don't know much about this planer except it works fine, it seems. Though I will be making it a permanent home of some sort with in-feed & out-feed tables, currently set-up, it leaves about 2-3 inches of snipe, but hopefully some fine tuning and the possibility of some of you having a tip or two to share will square away most of the bugs I might encounter.

Anyways...sorry for rambling, I'm still giddy over this....hope you all have a great weekend, and be sure to at least wave hi to your neighbors...you just never know...

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Israeli airstrikes killed one Gaza militant and injured 17 people in the coastal strip Saturday while a rocket from the Palestinian territory wounded one Israeli. The country's military chief of staff summoned senior officers to discuss the latest flare up in violence.

A military spokesman said Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz convened "an urgent meeting" to discuss ways of dealing with the Palestinian attacks. Gaza militants fired over 20 rockets and mortar shells on Saturday alone, bringing the week's rocket tally to about 150.

The spokesman, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, gave no other details about the meeting.

Over a million people living in southern Israel are in range of the rockets. The Israeli military has told people there to make sure they can get to a bomb shelter quickly. An Israeli was seriously wounded Saturday when a Gaza rocket smashed through a factory roof. Several other Israelis were injured in Palestinian rocket attacks this past week.

The spike in violence began on Monday when two gunmen infiltrated into Israel along its border with Egypt's Sinai peninsula and killed an Israeli Arab construction worker who was on a crew building a border security fence meant to avert such attacks. Later, a little known al-Qaida-inspired group, the Mujahedeen Shura Council of Jerusalem, claimed responsibility for the attack and identified the gunmen as an Egyptian and a Saudi.

Since then, Gaza gunmen have fired barrages of rockets and mortar rounds at Israel, wounding several Israelis and damaging apartment buildings. Israel responded with airstrikes on militant targets that gave killed at least 9 Palestinians and wounded more than 20 so far.

Gaza health official Ashraf Al Kedra said that a boy was killed in an airstrike Saturday morning in Khan Younis. The Israeli military said they didn't attack that area. Palestinian rockets often misfire and explode inside Gaza.

On Friday, an Israeli airstrike killed a Gaza militant as he was preparing to launch rockets.

The flare-up is the most serious in months, drawing in militants from Hamas, which rules the territory but has largely refrained from attacking Israel since a war more than three years ago. Other Palestinian groups persisted with rocket assaults and other attacks on Israel during that time.
